Ankhenespepi
Egyptian/Arabic Bellydance Performers
Ankhenespepi is a magical collaboration of enthusiasm and dedication
between Katie Holland and Niina Martin. Performers of the Middle
Eastern art of Belly-dance, their intricate moves and fluid undulations
and glittering costumes wow onlookers and leave them either dumbstruck
or keen to get up and dance themselves!
Ankhenespepi was formed in the summer of 2001 and Katie and Niina
have since performed together and separately at a wide variety
of events including community fetes, night clubs, festivals, parties
and restaurants, they have given classes, talks, workshops and
even radio interviews on the subject of Egyptian/Belly-dance.
Their repertoire consists of a mixture of dance choreographies
performed either as tightly synchronised duets or beautiful solos
to a variety of different styles of music. Some are mesmerising
atmospheric, others lively and catchy.
Influences range from classical Egyptian dance, through Turkish,
Tunisian, African, Brazilian Samba, American Tribal, Bollywood
dance, cabaret style belly-dance through to modern Western dance
and music.
Egyptian/Belly dance is a skill and art-form that involves a
lot of hard work and dedication to come even close to achieving
perfection, though it is fantastic fun trying to get there. Unlike
many dance forms, Egyptian dance is very inclusive, being suitable
for people of all sizes and all ages
